The purpose of the Slovenian Catholic Center is to promote, encourage and foster in the context of the American society, the ideals of the Slovenian heritage and Christian religious and ethical values, providing and operating adequate facilities in support of the religious purposes of the Commisariat of the Holy Cross (CHC) and the Slovenian Catholic Mission (SCM) to carry on exclusively religious, educational, and charitable activities.

New Honorary Consulate in Illinois
On Sunday, June 14, 2009, the new Slovenian Ambassador Roman Kirn met with the local Slovenian community for the occasion of opening a Slovenian Honorary Consulate with Dr. John P. Vidmar, a Slovenian Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Slovenia for the State of Illinois.
The seat of the Honorary Consulate is on the premises of the Slovenian Catholic Center.
Honorary consuls represent the Republic of Slovenia at political and economic functions, help citizens in distress, promote Slovenia and maintain contacts with the local Slovenian community.
The event was also an occasion for the local community to bid farewell to the Slovenian Consul General Dr. Zvone Zigon, who will be leaving his post at the end of this August after four successful years in Cleveland, OH.
